Bündchen grew up in Horizontina, a small town in the rural region of Rio Grande do Sul. There, she excelled academically and dreamed of playing volleyball professionally. She was so good on the court that if someone hadn’t set up a modeling class for local ladies, she might have actually become one. Only the free trip to São Paulo offered at the end of the class convinced Bündchen to enroll. She was 13 years old and had never visited a large city, much less São Paulo. It was 25 hours away by bus. A modeling agency chose her from among the other 55 uniformed girls there, during her first meal at the fast-food restaurant.
This is what Bündchen promised herself
Further, she was placed second nationally in the ‘Look of the Year’ modeling contest. Nothing could stop the budding model from thereon. She flew to New York City and made her runway debut at the Alexander McQueen show. Only good times were coming for the former Victoria’s Secret Angel. To keep herself disciplined and focused, she made several promises to herself when she moved to São Paulo to pursue modeling.
“I am not going to go back home empty-handed. I’m not going to disappoint my parents and my sisters. I’m going to work as hard as I can and do what I have to do, even if that means working all day and all night,” she mentioned in her memoir.

Gisele Bündchen propagates discipline
It is not surprising that the model who earned the highest for fourteen consecutive years practices absolute discipline. In her memoir, ‘Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life’, she wrote how combining discipline with dedication and focus could bestow people with unimaginable gifts. How setting realistic goals and practicing humility could help many achieve what they want.
It was because of following those principles that she could keep working in São Paulo, and then in America to become the most decorated model in the world.
