NFL fans are on an emotional rollercoaster. The Washington Commanders topped off an emotional week by causing more than a few teary eyes. While players and teams metaphorically leave fans crying on a daily basis, this time around, they would need a box of tissues. With the Pro Bowl rosters are out Commanders head coach Ron Rivera broke the news to those who were selected. The reactions of the players had fans misty-eyed.
The team captured the reactions of their players on video. Rivera took the role of breaking the news to the next level. When the selected players approached him, the coach pretended to have bad news for them. By placing his hand on his head and looking down, Rivera looked like he was about to deliver bad news. Wary players who were anticipating something negative received the best surprise.

This user comments on Way’s excitement for his teammate
Tress Way is genuinely more excited about Jeremy than he is for himself. Give me teammates like this up and down the roster. Much respect.

The joy on Reaves’ face and his teary reaction was enough to make grown adults cry. But why did the NFL world react this way?
Jeremy Reaves’ road to the top was not a smooth ride
Ron Rivera may not receive the Oscar Award for Best Actor but he deserves to be ‘Coach of the Year’ because of the way he broke the news to his players. Terry McLaurin, Jonathan Allen, and Tress Way were given the good news of their selection first. The players shook hands with their coach, looking around with a mix of ecstasy and disbelief. But it was Jeremy Reaves’ reaction that had fans bawling.

After going undrafted, exiting the Eagles squad, and awaiting his turn while on the Commanders’ practice squad, Reaves made it to the team’s main roster this season. Amidst all of this, the 26-year-old lost his mother last year. Reaves has previously mentioned that she was his “biggest fan.” This is perhaps one of the reasons why his teammates were happier for his success than their own. Moments like these are special and an example of how the sport brings out emotion like no other.
