In a recent interview, former DPOY JJ Watt found himself in a tricky situation. He was asked to choose between the Jets and Giants for a better season, knowing his answer could stir up controversy. With his reputation for being careful, Watt thoughtfully weighed the potential consequences. In the end, despite the expected backlash, he leaned towards ‘one option’ with bold reason.

He even shakes things up by openly disagreeing with Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes in another interview with ESPN. He boldly stated that he didn’t view them as Super Bowl contenders and even went as far as predicting they wouldn’t outperform ‘a team’ in the AFC East.

In a divisive interview with SI, when asked about his opinion on which team, the Jets or the Giants, would have a better season, ex-DPOY JJ Watt contemplated the question. He was well aware of the potential backlash his response might generate from New York fans; Watt expressed his reluctance to cause offense, even Aaron Rodgers’ fans. Despite his reservations, taking into account the NY Giants’ impressive performance in the previous season, he recognized the exceptional work carried out by their coach, Daboll. “I mean the Giants had an unbelievable last season, last year Daboll obviously did a great job with that team. ‘Who has a better season, the Jets or the Giants,’ Watt admits “I know, I have to [choose one] and I know I’m gonna p*ss off half of New York which is not what I want. I’m gonna go with the team that had success last year just I’ll go with the Giants again.”

Former DPOY, JJ Watt ultimately chose to side with the Giants. He attributed their success as the main reason behind his decision. Former DE for the Cardinals even did not support Rodgers or Mahomes to overtake Buffalo Bills explicitly.

JJ Watt: Clear words of disagreement against Rodgers & Mahomes

Even Watt gave an electric shock to both Mahomes & Rodgers. In a similar period of his interview (previous interview with SI) with ESPN, he was compelled to deliberate about his thoughts on the potential Super Bowl contenders. His belief in the Chiefs’ or Jets’ team’s chances? Watt didn’t consider them to be Super Bowl contenders and even predicted that they would not win the AFC East, surpassing both Buffalo and Miami.

On the show, ESPN, JJ Watt encountered one question- “When you say high ceiling, I need specifics because I believe they (Aaron or Patrick) are definitely Super Bowl contenders. I believe they will win the AFC East that means over Buffalo and Miami.”

JJ Watt responds quickly “I don’t think, they [Rodgers or Mahomes] take it over Buffalo. I don’t [think so], that’s my personal opinion. Buffalo is a great team they’re a very good team, Josh Allen’s great, they got a great great team they got an unbelievable fan base. I love them and yeah I don’t think they’re taking over Buffalo.”

Watt quickly disagreed and emphasized his personal opinion that the Buffalo Bills were a formidable team with exceptional players like Josh Allen and a devoted fan base, and he didn’t see Rodgers or Mahomes overtaking them.
