Tom Brady is the greatest player to ever play on the gridiron. But he wasn’t ever a prodigy or a top draft prospect. The legendary QB worked his way to eternal sporting greatness that will live for generations to come. His friend and former teammate Julian Edelman recalled the moment when Brady’s thirst for greatness became evident.

Edelman and Brady played together for the New England Patriots for more than a decade. And the accomplished wide receiver revealed the thirst that made his quarterback the greatest sporting icon.

Julian Edelman has a lot of Tom Brady stories to tell the world. And he narrated one such story on the ‘Games with Names’ podcast. Edelman revealed the moment when he realized how determined Brady was to achieve the ultimate sporting greatness.

“Me and Brady are training at LA, at his gym. And he has the location of where the Super Bowl is on his whiteboard in his home gym. It’s like March and I’m like,’ what is that?’ He said, ‘ that’s where we’re gonna go play the last game’. I go, ‘ we’re gonna get you to pass Joe’. Montana because of four, you know, four Super Bowls. He looks at me with that golden stare of those sizzling, steel blue eyes and says, ‘ I’m not going for Montana. I’m going for Jordan’,” Edelman told his co-host Sam Morril.

Michael Jordan won six NBA titles to establish himself as a global sporting icon. Even in countries that don’t play much basketball, people know and recognize Jordan and acknowledge his greatness. Brady has achieved a similar status as the greatest football player of all time. And he did go past Jordan in the number of titles when he won his seventh Super Bowl in the 2020 season after moving to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The GOAT says goodbye 

Tom Brady joined the NFL as a sixth-round pick for the Patriots. 23 years and seven Super Bowl titles later, he drew curtains on his playing career as the undisputed GOAT of the sport. He announced his retirement in a short video message to his fans on February 1, 2023.

“Thank you, guys, for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all,” Brady said in his farewell video.

He achieved what he set out to do and bowed out on his own terms. The fans will always remain in awe of his greatness. And his career will always speak of his contribution to the NFL and football in general.
