A few weeks ago, Drew Brees hinted at a possible NFL comeback, and fans were excited to welcome the legend back to the field. However, the veteran seems to have chosen an alternate path by landing a new role as an executive in the pickleball team, Mad drops. The 43-year-old pro-footballer just bought part ownership in this new pickleball franchise and has joined the owners’ panel. It consists of stars like James Blake, Jim Buss, Marc Lasry, and many more.

Although Brees hinted at his love for pickleball in his recent tweets and messages to the fans. But nobody could have imagined an imminent transition from his broadcasting job. “I am an avid pickleball player, fan, and student of the game,” Brees said. “The opportunity to be a part of the ownership group of the Mad Drops PC is something I’m extremely excited about, and I look forward to helping raise awareness around the incredible players and competitions in MLP,” he added.

 

To all those who are hearing about the game for the first time, pickleball happens to be a reinvented hybrid sport with a mixture of games like tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

Players use a hard paddle to hit the rigid plastic balls over the net. Moreover, the court on which the game is played is somewhat similar to that of tennis. Both one-on-one(Singles) and two-on-two (double) can be played in this new version of the sport.

This game is in the quest for a larger fan engagement. All these veterans will certainly help improve and foster the brand value of pickleball. This Major League Pickleball was established back in 2021. As of now, 12 teams have come together in 2022 to scale the event at a much larger pace.

What did Drew Brees say about his NFL comeback?

The Saints legend was the first person to spread the rumors while interacting with his fans online. After leaving his NFL duties by the end of the 2020 season, Brees got engaged in the commentary for NBC. He resigned from his position in May this year. Fans were keen to know his plans for the future. That’s when he hinted at a possible comeback.

“I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids, or all of the above. I’ll let you know,” he wrote on Twitter. This news spread like a wildfire and took no time for netizens to react.

Even if Drew Brees still wishes to make a comeback, he could only do so after September or October. He underwent shoulder surgery a few weeks ago, which will take some time to heal.
