Former Raiders’ head coach John Madden is one of the iconic names in NFL history. Almost 20 years ago, his story about a weird Thanksgiving dish, ‘Turducken,’ has become one of the legendary tales. Since then, many tried making the ‘Turducken’. Interestingly, the Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes will also try the legendary dish in this year’s Thanksgiving, paying tribute to the great man.

Recently, Mahomes talked about the dish, and what Madden meant to him as a child. Apart from Mahomes, the Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid, also chimed in with his take on the legendary coach and his ‘Turducken.’

In an interview on Wednesday, Reid talked about Madden’s legacy. He said, “Turducken. I mean you think about Turducken. I still have my Turducken in the freezer in tribute to him. I’m debating stuffing it… He was my guy. I appreciate everything he did for me.”
While talking about his footballing legacy, Reid said, “Think about what he did for football, for our jobs in here, the thing you guys do for TV, [it was] phenomenal at changing it and then as a coach, Hall of Fame coach.”
Then, the reporters asked Mahomes about Madden’s legacy. Interestingly, he talked about the John Madden Football video game, which was insanely popular back in the day. As he is much younger than his head coach, he picked the video game as his greatest legacy. However, he still talked about the dish, ‘Turducken’.
“I’m doing the turducken this year, I’m going to try it out. I’m not cooking it, I can’t cook, but my chef is already preparing it and getting it ready to go, and I’ll let you all know next week how it is,” Mahomes further said.

According to Madden, ‘Turducken’ is a mix of turkey, duck, and chicken and Madden used to cook it during Thanksgiving. While calling a game on air, he once described how to curve a ‘Turducken,’ and his co-host, Al Michaels, could not hold his laughter.

“You have to slice it down the middle, and then you slice it across this way because you see what it is — it’s a deboned chicken, stuffed inside of a deboned duck, stuffed inside of a deboned turkey — with dressing between the chicken and the duck and the turkey,” Madden explained while calling a game on Thanksgiving.
