His 2x Super Bowl MVP brother Patrick Mahomes, on the other hand, has mostly managed to stay out of trouble. Except for that one time, he decided to give away the Vince Lombardi trophy to a stranger. Well, PM15 finally decided to cleanse himself of the ‘being too tipsy’ accusations from the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII parade.

During his latest appearance on fellow champion tight end Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback explained the circumstances under which he passed off the championship silverware to a random fan. And his answer certainly pleased the ‘Chiefs Kingdom’, who responded with a thunderous roar.

Patrick Mahomes was just returning the favor

In the special New Heights episode held at the Kansas City Music Hall, Patrick Mahomes and former Chiefs QB2 Chad Henne came on as the special guests to join Travis and his brother, Jason. The group discussed a myriad of topics ranging from Travis’ Chiefs coming out on top of Jason’s Eagles in the title game to Pat Mahomes being a father of two. However, the Chiefs TE finally asked his quarterback the all-important question about the trophy handoff. Patrick Mahomes was at the receiving end of a lot of criticism when he walked off without taking the Lombardi trophy back from a fan during the parade. Mahomes explained his actions.

“I don’t remember his name. It wasn’t the real Lombardi. I’ll admit it. It wasn’t the real one. But it was cool. It was a great replica. I mean, obviously, Chiefs Kingdom came out strong. So I gotta show the support back. So I handed it right back to him,” Mahomes said.

7x Super Bowl champion Tom Brady didn’t think there was anything wrong with Mahomes’ celebration antics. After all, Brady infamously threw the Lombardi from one boat to another during their Super Bowl LV celebrations.
