Because of the surgery, Stafford had to stay some time away from football. As one would expect, returning to his job was difficult. He credits his wife’s strength and toughness, which allowed him to pay attention to football again.
Matthew Stafford missed a week of Lion’s formal offseason program because Kelly was healing from the surgery. His wife went through intense headaches and pain. The Super Bowl-winning QB said, “[When] Kelly had a bad night, I was trying to get home as fast as I can. It’s been up and down, just as we kind of expected it to be. But like I said, everybody here has been extremely, extremely supportive, and so have my teammates have been great, too. They understand.”
How did the wife of Matthew Stafford manage to get better and stronger?
Kelly Stafford broke the news of her brain tumor on Instagram. Doctors diagnosed Stafford with acoustic neuroma. She talked about the fear of undergoing surgery, of losing the ability to hear, or something more ominous. Since the surgery, she kept the whole world posted about her recovery journey.
The surgery, which was supposed to be for 6 hours, turned into a 12-hour ordeal. The doctors found an abnormal vein inside her head. However, since the doctors were well-research on the anomaly, everything sailed smoothly. Kelly called her doctors her “dream team.”
