Former Victoria’s Secret model Gisele Bündchen is someone who is famous for her spiritual, caring, and sympathetic nature. She also a die-hard fan of the Brazilian soccer team, and the nation in general where she was born. So it is not difficult to fathom that she had a massive internal conflict. Once, when she was asked to participate in the opening ceremony for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. And once again, when she was invited to walk the ramp at the opening ceremony for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In her book ‘Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life’, Bündchen talked about a time when she felt torn. This was when her country asked her to be a part of the World Cup’s opening ceremony. “When I was asked to take part in the opening ceremonies of the 2014 FIFA World Cup,” she writes, “I was torn. Like a lot of Brazilians, I believed Brazil could have used the money being spent on stadiums and running tracks for other, more urgently needed things, like improving hospitals, schools, and the infrastructure.”
But in the end, her patriotic feeling towards her home nation overpowered the feelings of dismay she might have had. She added, “I felt it would be an honor to represent my country, as an opportunity to make a positive contribution…… All my attention was now focused on trying to give off as much light, hope, and positive energy as possible—and to represent my country in the best way that I could.”

She once even defended her nation for hosting the Olympics during the Zika virus scare. “I feel that there will always be people judging and criticizing no matter what,” she said. “I believe that there are different ways to look at things. (And) I always chose to focus on the positive because I believe that so much of what we create comes from what we believe.”

Bündchen further writes about how she felt the same way once again. This time, when she was invited to walk the runway at the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics. “No one believed Brazil could host a successful Olympics ceremony. As a result, I was apprehensive about the whole situation.”

“But I also knew that whenever I’m afraid of stretching myself, that’s when I need to be brave. If I’m unwilling to dare or try something new, I close off opportunities to experience the benefits that could come about as a result. The biggest successes in my life have all come about when I reached beyond my own comfort zone,” she said.
