Shannon Sharpe took the Broncos to new heights in the 1990s. But what if that had never happened and the Broncos had let Sharpe go to find another team in his rookie year? The three-time Super Bowl champion revealed that it almost did happen.
“I was on the board to get cut. I was one of the last 12-14 guys to get cut. I was a seventh-round draft pick. That’s my rookie year 1990. We’re playing, I’ll never forget this, we’re playing, uh, Arizona Cardinals and one of the coaches came to me and said, Shannon he said, your name is on the board to get cut. Yeah he says,’ now you might, you might not but your name is on the board. He said, ‘what you should do is go out there and bust your ass,” Sharpe said on the Kelce brothers’ ‘New Heights’ podcast.Thankfully, it did not happen, and the world saw Sharpe turn into one of the best TE’s of all time. But his career story did come so very close to being absolutely different from what the fans saw and know.

Shannon Sharpe came into the NFL in 1990 as a seventh-round draft pick for the Broncos. He played for a decade straight for the Broncos and won them two Super Bowl titles in that period. Sharpe then went to the Baltimore Ravens for a couple of seasons and lifted another Vince Lombardi trophy before coming back and spending his final two seasons in Denver again.

In the 14 years he spent in the league, Sharpe went to the Pro Bowl eight times. He was a force to reckon with on the field. But it didn’t end there, he made a name for himself even off the field.

Sharpe has become an acclaimed sports commentator, hosting the ‘Undisputed’ show with Skip Bayless. And he doesn’t hold back on his opinions. Sharpe was sharp on the field and is still sharp off it today.
