“I Was a Good Girl. I Was a Tom Boy”: Tom Brady’s Ex-wife Gisele Bündchen Once Wrote About a Part of Her Beautiful Body That Caused Her Fear

The road to the top hasn’t been easy for Gisele Bündchen these last two decades. Things were especially hard during her early years in the fashion world; a world so unknown and unpredictable for Bündchen, who wasn’t even eighteen yet. Tom Brady’s ex-wife recounts an array of experiences right from her rookie days in the fashion and ramp walk industry in her memoir. However, among them all, one London night stands out the most for her. A night when the future millionaire supermodel almost gave it all up.

According to Gisele Bündchen’s 2018 memoir, ‘Lessons: My Path To A Meaningful Life’, Alexander McQueen’s spring 1998 Golden Shower Fashion Show was one of the biggest nights in the budding model’s career. Having already done small shows in New York City, this was her first appearance in the international circuit.

However, it wasn’t exactly what Gisele was expecting. McQueen’s Golden Shower Show etched its name in fashion lore after putting together a heightened experience for all the stars present. As the show progressed, the intensity increased before the rain came pouring down in the last segment. And Gisele had an enormous problem with that.

When the producers handed Gisele the silver stranded bathing suit and a dress, Bündchen had no problem pulling the collections off. However, the third piece of costume, a fishtail skirt, brought with it many questions to Gisele’s mind. And her biggest feas came true when she came to know that the fishtail skirt didn’t have a top. Yes, Bundchen was about to go topless for the first time and tears quickly filled her eyes.

Gisele Bündchen wasn’t a big fan of this aspect of her own body

Wearing white paint instead of a top, Gisele aced the job at hand. However, it left an indelible impression on her. “Now I was about to go out there in a painted-on top and it was also raining,” Gisele recounted.

She further wrote, “A few minutes earlier I had been crying so hard my tears were washing off my makeup. I was a good girl; I was a tomboy. And I was someone whose big breasts had embarrassed her since she’d hit puberty, a girl gripped by fear that my family would feel so embarrassed.“

And if it wasn’t for Val, the makeup artist during that show, who thought of the painted-on top, Gisele’s career could have been over before it even took off. However, it all worked out perfectly for the Brazilian supermodel. McQueen dubbed Gisele ‘The Body’ after the fashion show, and Bündchen’s phones never stopped ringing again.

The future worked out well for the former Victoria’s Secret Angel. Even after her divorce from former Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady in October last year, Bündchen had no problems transitioning back into the industry she once feared and ruled at the same time.
