Odell Beckham Jr. rose to the scene in 2014 and was off running. Post his showing for LSU, the New York Giants drafted him in the first round. Nike, too, got in on this action as they signed him the same year. What an investment it turned out for them as the wide receiver dominated the league. While he was a force on the field, OBJ also has had a flair to him, making him one of the most desired NFL athletes.

Nike renewed their contract with OBJ in 2017 for a close to $30 million deal. However, OBJ has gone on record for suing the sports giants, as he cites incompetency on their end with contractual commitments.

Odell Beckham Jr. means business

He took to Twitter to announce his dilemma with the company. Odell had always dreamed of being associated with Nike in his childhood days.

When he got the opportunity with them, he stated that he wanted to be the next Michael Jordan in the Nike family. “When Nike made me one of their brand icons, my dream was fulfilled”.

This dreamy affair for the OBJ ended on a foul note. He stated, “I am extremely disappointed that I’ve had to take these measures to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises…”

According to the star WR, Nike has failed him by providing excuses for not fulfilling their commitments, while he has delivered everything promised from his end. 

Odell Beckham Jr. has been all over the news lately as teams look to onboard him. The free agent has been away from the game due to an ACL injury. He picked it up while playing with the LA Rams. As his return to the game closes in, the wide receiver has shown how he means business before re-emerging on the football field. The two parties have had an association for around eight years now and it doesn’t appear to be ending on a positive note.

OBJ has been a style icon for all eight years. Be it his flashy game-day ‘fits, his touchdown celebrations or his $200,00 watches that he wore in-game. The suave WR has been an asset for Nike. However, with a change in their equation, other brands can cash in on this opportunity. The NFL community is already aware that OBJ will announce his return to the league by posting big numbers.
