Tom Brady couldn’t have been entirely surprised after an 8-9 regular season ended with a first-round playoff elimination. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers struggled from the very start. Reaching the playoff was in itself an enormous success story for a depleted Bucs side. And TB12 is instilling some of that resilience in his kids.
On the most recent episode of the Let’s Go podcast with Jim Gray, Brady spoke about the worst season of his 23-year decorated playing career. However, instead of feeling down about it, the seven-time Super Bowl champion has drawn lessons and inspiration from the losing year.

After the 31-14 wild-card round loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Brady has been spending his time in Miami with his kids. Tampa Tom has rented a luxurious apartment in Miami for himself. And while his former Brazilian supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, is rejuvenating in Costa Rica, Brady is imparting some valuable life lessons to kids, Benjamin and Vivian Lake.
“I wanna teach my children resilience. And I don’t want it to go right for my kids all the time. I told them that this morning. I want you guys to fail. Because I wanna see what you’re made of. If you fail and when you fail. Cause life isn’t gonna be just a smooth ride. So you gotta develop resiliency. What did this particular season teach me? Resilience. Amongst a lot of things. But that’s a good thing to take away from it,” the former New England Patriots QB told Jim Gray after a heated exchange.
And Brady wasn’t using the adversities this year as an excuse.

After a Lombardi Trophy in the 2021 season with a victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, the Bucs didn’t expect the tide to turn so swiftly. After the retirement of legendary tight end and future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski, things got worse with the subsequent departure of Ali Marpet. Center Ryan Jensen also injured himself in the pre-season training camp.
Besides, the ones who stayed also had their fair share of injury worries. The O-line, by the end of the regular season, had only Donovan Smith from the Super Bowl LV batch. And the offensive inadequacies ultimately led to OC Byron Leftwich’s firing this week.
