The minute they are drafted to the NFL, most players bid farewell to their anonymity. Well, maybe the process starts way before the draft as most of these young men are being scouted and talked about extensively. In addition to these professional athletes, their families also have to sign up for a life in the public eye.
Not to mention that fans sometimes push the envelope a bit too much, often intruding beyond their limits. The name, Patrick Mahomes, is enough to take an arena by storm. The Super Bowl MVP incites a sense of curiosity among his fans, that they remain glued to his socials while occasionally crossing the line.
Online attention is one thing, but real-life interactions can be overwhelming, as fans often misjudge access as a privilege. The situation can get particularly scary if you have kids. Maybe that’s why Brittany Mahomes has a hard time trusting the outside world.
During a Q&A session on her Instagram, Brittany Mahomes was asked by one of her fans, “Do you have bodyguards?”
To which the mother of two replied, “We do. I trust nobody and this world is crazy!”
Brittany Mahomes’ response makes perfect sense if you follow the crazy misfortunate events that have transpired over the years. The security and safety of professional athletes were immediately brought into question as many NFL athletes shared their extreme measures. At the time, Washington Redskins tackle Chris Samuels opened up on his plans to buy a gun while Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor showcased his trust in a rather vicious canine friend.
The league advised its players to maintain a lower public profile. League spokesperson Greg Aiello said, “Lower their profile as private citizens and try to avoid making it conspicuous that they are NFL players, In other words, don’t make it easy for people to target you.”
