He knew where he was going before he even got there. That is the story of Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers, whom the Baltimore Ravens drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He is certainly hyped up at the thought of linking up with the highest-paid player in NFL history, Lamar Jackson. And his happiness is proof that the Ravens did a good job in recruiting a brave soldier for their QB’s offensive army.

The Ravens used their pick number 22 in this year’s draft to give Jackson more options in the offense. He joins an elite group that already boasts of the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. The WR talked to his family and friends right after his drafting process. And it was evident that he got to the franchise he wanted to play for the quarterback he wanted.

The NFL shared a video that showed the emotions of former Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers after the Ravens drafted him in the first round. He talked to his family and friends over a video call. There, he reminded them that he always knew he would end up with Lamar Jackson. And surely, he did.

Flowers played four seasons of college football in Boston, the place that gave the world Doug Flutie. While he was there, he made his mark on the team and got two All-AAC first-team selections. He is just the second WR to get into the All-AAC first team in college history. He is also in the Eagles’ history books as the reception leader. And now he joins Jackson in the Ravens’ flock to go for that Super Bowl.

The story could have been entirely different as until recently, nobody knew if Jackson would stay with the Ravens. That saga concluded with a mega deal and got Flowers his dream QB.

The Ravens-Jackson saga 

Lamar Jackson was himself in limbo for more than a year. He couldn’t come to an agreement with the Ravens on a contract extension. Things got so heated up that he even asked for a trade. After a year of negotiations, the saga finally ended with a mega five-year deal worth up to $260 million.

This deal means that Jackson could make $52 million a year, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. It has a whopping $185 million as guaranteed money for the QB. Apart from that, the Ravens have signed new weapons to help Jackson like Odell Beckham Jr. and now, Zay Flowers. The flock is looking formidable.
