Patrick Mahomes can always depend on his tight end to have his back, come what may. And Travis Kelce doesn’t need an extra reason to gush about his quarterback. The symbiotic duo has been instrumental for the Chiefs in their two championship journeys. And, recently, during an interview, Travis lists a crucial Mahomes quality that helps the most.
During an episode of the ‘New Heights’ podcast hosted by Travis and his Philadelphia Eagles center, brother Jason Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs No 87 specified what makes his quarterback so special. And more than the superhuman physicality, it’s the photographic memory.

After Travis and Pat won the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second time in the past four years, the younger Kelce made a staunch announcement for his QB. “The one and only Mahomes,” he said of the 2x Super Bowl MVP. And Jason wanted to know what makes him so great, especially after being on the losing side of the Kelce Bowl.
“He’s Pat Mahomes. Nobody can throw the way he does. Nobody has the creativity in his mind to be able to just have plays that you wouldn’t think would be possible. If you talk to him, he’s got that McVay kind of memory, where he remembers watching this play from the third game of 2017, and it only makes him that much more quick-twitched and instinctual on the field. It’s fun rocking with him, I know that,” Travis said.

Besides being Mahomes’ biggest cheerleader and doing a pretty mean Patrick impression, Kelce also spoke about his quarterback’s leadership skills, something that was on full display this postseason.

Despite blitzing through the regular season with a No 1 seeded 14-3 record, Patrick and Travis’ Chiefs faced quite the dilemma in the divisional round. Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain against the Jacksonville Jaguars. And the title dreams kept slipping away until the Warrior Chief returned with the injured ankle to power through the next two games.
The Super Bowl LVII game also saw a major injury scare for Patrick in the first half. However, he wasn’t going to let anything come in the way of another ring. “That dude is such a competitor. He’s fighting for the guys that are next to him, on the field, at all times. Also, leading us on the sidelines, getting the guys rallied, getting the guys refocused. Big on the comms. He’s just the ultimate leader. That’s what makes it so fun to play with him,” Kelce added.
