Tom Brady remembered the anxiety he felt as the draft progressed, nine more picks went until one team, they thought might be interested. As the draft continued, Brady recalled being downstairs during the fourth round, and the fifth round began, seeing other players being picked while his name was not called.
Tom Brady got up at the beginning of the sixth round, grabbed a baseball bat, and started walking up the street because he was so anxious. He preferred to distract himself instead of waiting anxiously for the draft. Brady returns during the 6th round’s 22nd pick, exclaiming his desire to leave, it was really tough.

Brady became very emotional at this point and said that it was a hard day. He remembered taking a walk with his dad and mom around the block. Tom got tears in his eyes recalling this situation. It was just a tough day. “I just remember being there with my mom and dad”. Tom Brady said that his parents are not as emotional as he does.

But then, the Patriots called. Tom was overjoyed and relieved, feeling like he didn’t need to pursue his backup plan of selling insurance (wiping his tears). Tom Brady’s father recalled how they were led to believe that Tom might be drafted, possibly in the third round. They kept hearing quarterback names being called out, and with each passing name, they became more and more distraught and stunned.
Worth noting, is a significant credit to Coach Belichick in the draft of Tom Brady. He signed a contract for three years amounting to $864,000 with an additional signing bonus of $38,400 in that particular year. Brady’s rookie salary was only $193K. He played for Patriots from 2001-2019 and signed a $70 million deal in 2019.
