The Denver Broncos are looking to change things around after the embarrassing 2022 season. The Broncos have made contact with the former Super Bowl-winning Saints’ head coach Sean Payton, and Russell Wilson loves it. However, Sean has a lot of things to consider before saying yes to the Orange Crush.
Sean Payton has been off coaching for over a year now. And with his cozy Fox Sports job in place, many experts and analysts think that Payton’s coaching days may be over. On top of that, there is the quarterback issue.
NFL Executive lists Russell Wilson as the prime reason for Payton’s delay in saying yes

According to Fox Sports Radio Host Colin Cowherd, Sean Payton is gradually shifting away from the Broncos because of the many adverse factors at play. Sean had his first interview with the Mile High Club two weeks ago. However, Payton has now delayed the second interview with Denver and NFL’s richest owner Rob Walton for meetings with the Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite the possibility of a $25 million per year contract making him the highest-paid NFL head coach, Sean Payton is weary of making his comeback with Danger Russ. According to an anonymous NFL Executive, Payton’s hold-up has mainly to do with Russell’s form and his divisional quarterbacks just being better. However, Russell has made contact, according to sources, because “he needs fixing.”
"Can Sean fix Russ? I believe the answer is yes."

Sean ain’t saving Russ

“Denver has the best tradition, and the new owners seem aggressive and willing to spend, but I think Wilson is washed. And the lack of draft capital is holding them back. The defense is very good, but Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert aren’t going anywhere in that division,” the executive told The Athletic.
Fans think there have to be a lot of adjustments for a Wilson-Payton team-up
Playing Mahomes and Herbert twice a year in the division is working against Payton’s decision. Also, Russell Wilson’s personal office space and his individual training staff have, throughout the course of this season, led fans to speculate about the worst. That may be because the former Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion quarterback is not interested in functioning as a team and a unit.
“He’s one of the world’s best, obviously…. He’s competitive as can be, he’s a winner… and just the wizardry that you would have on the field was just magnificent,” Wilson said in a recent presser. Besides, Wilson also has the best parking spot at the facility. And some fans think that might be the deal breaker.
Payton, you deserve a better job. You should skip on Denver. They're a mess.

Does Russ give up his parking lot front row to Sean? That’s prob the deal breaker. I just kno it! 😜🍺

Does anyone still care what Wilson “wants”? This seems super premature and will rub off other HCs in contention

Greg Penner needs to make the best football decision and let it go. Sean Payton isn't what's best for Denver. If you have to strong arm a guy to buy in to your team, he isnt the guy. Let him go back to Fox.

The whole Herbert is going anywhere bit is tiring. Denver should be undefeated against the kid, save one game where the kicker had a Jordan flu game. I also find it funny that draft capital keeps coming up. This coming from a guy that applauds orgs for going win now mode.

Isn’t this the same guy who thought the Broncos were going to the Super Bowl once they signed Wilson? Clickbait.
— Ryan (@y0ryan) January 24, 2023
He then goes on to trash Russ and say he shouldn’t go there. Later on he says Denver would be a playoff team next year. He’s all over the place.

Cowherd’s words carry the highest weight in this situation before any concrete reports come in. Colin and Sean Payton are colleagues at the FOX desk. And Payton may find it inconvenient to go back on the sidelines. However, with Tom Brady’s future also lying in FOX broadcasting, the Sean Payton-TB12 partnership may actually be the one bearing fruit.
