Aaron Rodgers will find that he has an abundance of time to ponder his future prospects. After failing to make it to the postseason, the QB has now become the talk of the NFL world. Although A-Rod has two years on his contract, will he linger in Green Bay?

Brock Purdy is currently playing a season many only dreams of having. Filling in as a quarterback out of sheer necessity, Purdy took over the reins as seamlessly as a veteran. The rookie from Iowa State has led the 49ers into the postseason.

With the poise that many take years to build, Purdy has stepped up as a leader. As many in the league sit up to take notice of the last draft pick who has surpassed expectations, Aaron Rodgers gave his two cents on the matter. Now, A-Rod could’ve potentially made a beeline for the 49ers, especially with the decision about his future hanging in the balance. But Purdy’s brilliance seems to have created a hindrance to any possible interest in the franchise.

While speaking to Pat McAfee, Rodgers said, “But he [Purdy] obviously has that moxie and you can see it with his teammates, they love playing with him and hyping him up in the media, talking about him glowingly, I have nothing but respect for the way he’s played and I love seeing the underdog.” While Rodgers speaks positively about Purdy, the situation demands one question. Are older QBs being pushed out of the spotlight as younger stars take over the reins?

Rodgers is all too familiar with the concept of usurping an older quarterback. With Packers backup QB Jordan Love vying to do more than just living in A-Rod’s shadow, the situation begins to make sense.

There’s no doubt Rodgers and other veterans, like Tom Brady, are legends of the game. But now, these legends have reached the phase where they must work twice as hard just to keep up with their peers. Will the prospect of competing with younger stars alter Rodgers’ decision-making about a potential landing spot? As someone who takes time to work things out, A-Rod will come to a decision after much thought about what he wants his future to look like.
