The Dallas Cowboys will be heading into their 28th year fighting for the Lombardi Trophy. After having last touched it in 1995, Jerry Jones wished for it to happen this year, especially with the championship-calibre Cowboys’ defense. However, they fell to the 49ers in the divisional round playoff game.

This was the seventh time the Cowboys had lost in the divisional round since their last championship. And Jerry’s men have never seen a conference championship game, let alone a ring, since 1995. However, the Cowboys have changed. And so has their 80-year-old billionaire owner, Jones.

Jerry Jones spoke to the press about his evolution as an owner

Jones won three Super Bowls in his first 8 years in charge of America’s Team. And understandably, his expectations were high going forward. However, things took a twisted turn as their 5-12 postseason record since has underwhelmed the fans and Jerry himself.

“I get amused when people talk about this as a bit of the same — same old, same old, in reference to my 30 years. If you had any idea how many times I’ve changed in the 30 years. If you had any idea how many different directions I’ve gone in 30 years. Both in personnel and in coaching. I know I’m sounding defensive, but if anybody thinks they’re looking at the same guy here at the Senior Bowl that was here five years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, they don’t know how this works,” Jerry Jones told the press at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

However, Jones is not changing his mind about his quarterback and head coach.

Jerry takes solace in the 49ers’ misery

The Dallas Cowboys are not the only historically dominant force in the NFL without silverware to show for a long time. The San Francisco 49ers are going through a longer Super Bowl drought, having last won it in 1994. However, since then, the Niners have won the NFC title twice and then lost in the Super Bowl both times.

“San Francisco’s in the same boat,” Jerry added in the twenty-three-minute-long presser. And the 49ers have a bigger quarterback problem than the Cowboys. Yes, Dak Prescott couldn’t stand up to the pressure two years in a row against the 49ers in the playoffs. However, it’s still better than having no quarterbacks. San Fran resorted to Christian McCaffrey throwing the ball after QBs Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson were both injured in their last game of the season.

Aaron Rodgers has already clarified that he is not coming to San Francisco. And Tom Brady has retired. That leaves the 49ers very few options to pick from. And this is bound to give some joy to Jerry Jones, a long-time 49ers hater.
