The league has been predicting and foretelling Tom Brady’s retirement for half a decade now. Playing in his 23rd season, the 45-year-old still looks as productive as ever. Patrick Mahomes, who seems to be the next in line to take the honours of being a top quarterback in the league now, speaks about playing that deep into his career.

Patrick Mahomes has been a meteoric force in the NFL. He is establishing himself as the leader of the next generation of stars in the league. In 5 years, Mahomes has done everything it would take a good quarterback around 10 years to do. Speaking about how long he aims to play for, the quarterback said, “I don’t want to be out there just hanging on.”

Mahomes on playing at a high level and maintaining it

Don’t jump to any conclusions, though. The player alluded to the high standard of performance set by Tom Brady. The Chief’s quarterback explains how the veteran amazes him. Crediting Brady for not only his age but his production on the field, in spite of it. “He’s still playing at a very high level.” He added, “I think that’s why it’s hard for him to kind of give it up.”

So till what age Patrick Mahomes will play, is not about a single number marking his time in the league. It will come down to multiple different measures of his output as a player. If Mahomes is able to keep going at a high level, he will play as long as possible. But he has made it clear he won’t just hang in there for the sake of it.

However, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes going at it are enough to get everybody’s attention. One is the undisputed GOAT right now, and the other has become the most feared gunslinger.
