Johnny Manziel is poised to enter football’s annals much like Charlie Sheen did in the entertainment world. This versatile quarterback shattered football records in a remarkable two seasons, transitioning from a promising prospect to a swift downfall that left his career and reputation in ruins. Now, after a prolonged hiatus, the former Texas A&M quarterback has resurfaced in the spotlight.

The 30-year-old became the focal point of Netflix’s newest sports documentary, “Untold: Johnny Football,” which premiered this Tuesday. The documentary offers a rapid overview of Manziel’s journey from an underappreciated recruit at Kerrville Tivy High to his path leading to becoming a first-round NFL draft selection by the Cleveland Browns. Amid this narrative, one prominent figure who still recalls Manziel’s saga is a well-known host of ‘Undisputed.’

During Johnny Manziel’s NFL years, most pursued him relentlessly, except for a controversial ally, Skip Bayless. Accustomed to criticism from sports figures like Shannon Sharpe and Michael Strahan, Bayless garnered backlash this year due to comments on Damar Hamlin‘s hospitalization. In a recent podcast, Bayless discussed his connection with Manziel. He conceded that Johnny’s skill remained steady, but his journey concerned him. The 71-year-old divulged, “I was pretty inside Johnny Manziel during those days…..I still like Johnny but I don’t trust Johnny.

Bayless even likened Manziel to Eddie Haskell, a dubious character from the 60s sitcom “Leave It to Beaver.” The host further revealed, “I know Johnny looked up to me. I know Johnny appreciated the fact that I was mostly in his corner, up until the Draft. And I just wish I’d known enough to sit down and actually have a heart-to-heart with Johnny Manziel. Maybe I could have helped. I’m pretty good at that if I know help is wanted and or needed. But I didn’t see it. I didn’t listen to my instincts.

Nevertheless, Bayless believes that he missed an opportunity to help Manziel when he really needed it.

Skip Bayless has taken responsibility for not recognizing what he now perceives as a “cry for help” from former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel. In his newly released documentary ‘Untold: Johnny Football’, Manziel openly discusses his suicide attempt after hitting rock bottom. This episode has unveiled startling facets of Manziel’s life.

During the podcast, Bayless recounted speaking with Manziel during the period when his life took a downturn. Despite noticing certain signs, Bayless did not grasp the gravity of the situation. He said, “He didn’t look very good. He looked a little pale. A little weak. A little worn. And I was shocked.

While Bayless acknowledged that their conversation had been cordial and Manziel seemed composed, hindsight reveals it as a silent plea for help, a plea Bayless now regrets not fully comprehending. Nevertheless, Johnny Manziel is currently directing his attention toward his business endeavors and a range of other ventures, notably his clothing line.
