Almost everybody had written off Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs at the end of the third quarter in last year’s Super Bowl. Kyle Shanahan’s dominant San Francisco 49ers led by a 20-10 margin at that point in the game. But 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes had something else in mind.
The swashbuckling shot-caller propelled his side to Super Bowl glory by completing a stunning comeback in the fourth quarter of that game. With some help from the defense, the Chiefs outplayed the 49ers by a 31-20 scoreline and won their first Lombardi Trophy since 1970.
Pat Mahomes’ competitive nature is something that has helped him develop as a top-three quarterback in the NFL over the last two years. But does the reigning Super Bowl MVP realize the true power of his stardom? Tyrann Mathieu says no.

Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback Tyrann Mathieu appeared on the new episode of 10 Questions with Kyle Brandt on Tuesday. Here’s what the seasoned NFL safety had to say about teammate Patrick Mahomes.
“Yeah, I don’t think he understands who he is and maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe he’s really grounded and really humble in who he is as a person. But I don’t think he realizes he’s Patrick Mahomes like the superstar that can walk in Subway and get a free sandwich.”

“Yeah, it’s a great thing to watch. A lot of people talk about his athleticism but the kid works hard. I’m one of the first guys in the building every morning, and he’s always there before me and he’s always in the weight room. I think anytime that you can rely on your athleticism but also you can rely on your work ethic. You know, what you believe in. I think that just makes you that much more special,” Mathieu concluded.

It’s no secret that Pat Mahomes isn’t the most athletic quarterback in the NFL. The likes of Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson are more tenacious in terms of their athletic prowess. However, Mahomes’ winning drive is second to none. In fact, the 24-year old is often compared to Green Bay Packers great Aaron Rodgers. Mahomes himself admitted that he looks up to Rodgers for inspiration. At 36, A-Rod has two NFL MVP titles to his name while Mahomes has just the one. Can the young Chiefs quarterback add to that tally in 2020?
