Shedeur Sanders intends on following in his father’s footsteps. The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame-r Deion Sanders, Shedeur went on to establish himself as one of the biggest names in college football, winning the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year. The potential NFL star made headlines by completing 29 of 33 passes for 323 yards and five touchdowns in just his sophomore year.

In addition to getting it done on the football field, Sanders has been making history on the business end as well. He became the first player from an HBCU to sign a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal, partnering up with Gatorade. Many around the NFL want to understand the nature of Sanders as a player, comparing him to legends of the game. The young phenom is aware of these comparisons and shared his thoughts on the matter.

A difference in styles?

It is human nature to compare emerging talents to existing greats. While many young players have tried basing their game on watching some of the fascinating talents over the years, Shedeur Sanders has had a different approach. The son of NFL legend Deion Sanders recently made an appearance with Brandon Marshall and Ashley Nicole Moss for a special episode of Paper Route.

Sanders was asked about his dreams and ambitions looking into the future. The conversations quickly shifted to whether Shedeur Sanders feels he could be the next Patrick Mahomes or better.

Being the confident young man that he is, Sanders was prepared with an answer, “Well no, I can’t say cos I don’t really compare my game to a lot of people like on the field right now. I feel it is like a mixture of people like and that’s what I actually sat down and thought about, me and my QB coach were like who, what type of playing style do I have like and it’s not like a solid person that my style and their style is the same like it’s just not.

Sanders feels that his game replicates different aspects of NFL greats. However, he did not shy away from bringing NFL GOAT Tom Brady into the conversation, showcasing his admiration for Brady’s mentality.

The Brady connection

Shedeur Sanders already shares a special bond with Tom Brady. Back in 2022, Brady unveiled his apparel company, ‘Brady Brand’. The NFL GOAT wanted to have a youthful connection with his product, roping in Coastal Carolina University quarterback Grayson McCall, University of Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara, and University of Michigan tennis player Andrew Fenty.

Also added to represent the brand was Jackson State University quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Brady felt that Sanders would be a great addition to his brand, “Shedeur Sanders is the perfect ambassador for Brady (Brand),” said Tom Brady in a statement. Sanders also expressed his excitement at the news, deeming Brady as one of his mentors both on and off the field.
