The way ahead for Baker Mayfield in the NFL seems hazy after the Cleveland Browns signed quarterback Deshaun Watson into the roster. Mayfield’s current position on the roster is now a backup option for the team. Recently, Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy opened up on his stance on the young quarterback.

As far as the records are concerned, Mayfield is a Heisman Trophy winner. Lately, the Oklahoma Sooners statued him in recognition of his achievements and the success he brought to the team. Currently, the star QB is left hanging inside the Browns locker room with the front office, unable to find him a new home in the NFL.

What does Mark Murphy have to say about Baker Mayfield?

There are only a few days left for the draft to begin. As the days pass by, Mayfield’s chances of getting a new landing spot are depleting. The Cleveland Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in a lucrative deal with no option for the former QB to move his legs. While talking to Tom Grossi in his podcast, Packers CEO Mike Murphy put up his opinion on the young quarterback.

“Baker Mayfield is the number one pick in the overall draft and yeah I don’t, I don’t know, is he on a team?” Murphy said in the interview. The CEO was discussing the future of Jordan Love in the presence of Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback.

This offseason witnessed some crazy deals offered to the quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers got an extension, while Russell Wilson got traded in a blockbuster deal.

At the same time, Deshaun Watson was out of the expectations. And Mayfield would have never imagined the Browns going after Watson despite having him as a quarterback. Earlier this offseason, Mayfield requested the Browns to trade him, but his salary cap has been a matter of discussion among the teams.

Watson-Browns trade was filled with lots of confusion

The Watson-Browns blockbuster trade was filled with a lot of miscommunications and confusion. During the team’s pursuit of acquiring the Texans QB, Mayfield posted a thanks message to all the Cleveland fans citing an imminent exit from the team. The same day, the news broke out that Watson would play for the franchise; however, the abrupt cancellation of the deal foiled all their (Cleveland Browns) plans.

During the time, Mayfield was requesting a trade from the Browns; but the management did not release him. One of the main concerning factors for any team is Mayfield’s salary cap. He is expected to receive nearly $18.8 million annually this season, and no team is willing to hire at this salary. As the days are being counted for the draft, it would be interesting to see how Mayfield will find his fortune for the upcoming seasons.
