NFL Insider Garrett Bush wants a conversation around the finances for the future of players like Damar Hamlin. He laid bare the details of Hamlin’s NFL contract and said that if the safety doesn’t play again, the league won’t pay him anything. For him, that is the real crux of the matter beyond heartwarming messages and prayers.

“I don’t give a damn what the league feels about it. Why we don’t talk about the stuff that matters? This young man, you wanna know about him? He is 24 years old. He got a contract for $160,000, that’s his bonus. And he earns $825,000 this year. You say G Bush why you talking about this man’s money? Because guess what? He’s been in the league for two years. That means he’s not vested. That means if he doesn’t play another down in his life, he doesn’t get another check from the NFL,” Bush said on the ‘Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show’.

Bush further said that prayers and condolences won’t do Hamlin’s mother any good. That is because he’s played in the NFL for just two years and isn’t eligible for a pension just yet.

“Let’s be clear about this. You need to play three or four years before you even sniff a pension. So all this heartwarming and prayer and condolences, they do nothing for the boy’s mom,” Bush added.

Bush’s statement got instant backing from many current and former players of the league.

Instant backing by NFL players

Many players from the NFL, both current and former, gave their views on the matter. All of them backed Bush’s views and asked everyone to think about it. The Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay gives his take on the matter.

The Denver Broncos running back Chase Edmonds wants his NFL brothers to listen.

It’s a horrible truth for Trent Brown, the New England Patriots offensive tackle.
