Baker Mayfield, the Cleveland Browns quarterback, desperately needs a new landing spot in the NFL. After the Cleveland Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in a lucrative deal, things have changed for the quarterback.

Mayfield is expected to receive an annual salary of $18.8 million as a part of his contract. As a result, no team is willing to get him on their roster. During his recent appearance on the ‘You Neva Know’ podcast, the Oklahoma alumni discussed various matters related to his trade and tenure with the Browns.

Baker Mayfield is upset with the team’s poor management

For the past four seasons, Mayfield played quarterback for the team, helping them reach the playoffs in 2020. However, everything went in vain with a Watson trade, and the quarterback is unhappy about it.

The 2017 Heisman trophy winner pointed out the way the Browns handled their business with him this offseason. “I feel disrespected 100% because I was told one thing and they completely did another,” Mayfield said during an hour-and-a-half episode of the podcast on Wednesday.

However, he has no regrets about anything that has happened and is ready to walk away like that. “I really, truly, honestly have no regrets of my time in Cleveland or what I tried to give that place. True Clevelanders and true Browns fans know that, and that’s why I can walk away from the whole situation feeling like I did it.” Mayfield added in his interview.

As soon as Mayfield vented his displeasure publicly, the team’s general manager Andrew Berry clarified the matter at the owners’ meetings in Palm Beach. “If there’s probably one thing that I would regret or kind of go back [and do] differently, when he had been notified that we were one of the teams that Deshaun wanted to meet with, late that Monday night, we set up the visit. I had set up a call for Baker’s representation the following morning. The news got out before I was able to make that call.” Berry said in his statement.

The dramatic trade of former Texans QB jittered Mayfield’s position in the team

The Watson-Browns blockbuster trade was filled with a lot of miscommunications and confusion. During the team’s pursuit of acquiring the Texans QB, Mayfield posted a thanks message to all the Cleveland fans, citing an imminent exit from the team.

Eventually, the Browns officially declared Watson’s deal a few days later, and Mayfield’s release was speculated to be the next step by the management. However, nothing has happened so far. It’s yet to be seen what’s ahead for the QB because only a few days are left for the NFL draft to kick off.
