The NFL is currently dealing with a problem. And that problem is known as gambling. While the league has a very peculiar rule of allowing players to gamble on non-NFL sports, but forbids non-players to do so. This discrepancy in the rules certainly raises a lot of questions in the minds of fans. Most recently, one unnamed player incurred a loss of around $8 million after gambling in the 2022 season of the league.
And now, another 2X Super Bowl champion has come forward to speak up against the actions taken by the league to deal with the issue of gambling. And his opinion differs from the majority of the opinion that has been formed on the imposing problem.
Jonathan Jones speaks up his mind

Recently, New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones spoke up against the NFL gambling policy after three players were suspended for violating the rules of the NFL. Jones is a veteran, entering the league as an undrafted free agent after the Patriots signed him to a three-year $1.63 million contract in 2016.

The cornerback took to Twitter to express his dismay over the indefinite suspension of the three players over the violation of the league’s gambling rules. Jonathan Jones talked about the contradiction between risking his life on the field for his team versus betting on his own team. He said, “I understand rules are rules, But I can risk my life so that my team wins but I can’t risk 1K on my team winning🤷”

The veteran CB’s comments come after the league decided to suspend three players indefinitely for gambling on games in the 2022 season of the NFL.
Does the NFL need to check on its gambling rules?
Recently, the league suspended Indianapolis Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers and DE Rashod Berry, along with free-agent Demetrius Taylor throughout the whole of the 2023 season for gambling on NFL games last season. They can apply for reinstatement only after the new season of the league ends. Apart from this, Tennessee Titans OL Nicholas Petit-Frere also was given a six-game suspension for gambling inside the facility on non-NFL games. According to David Purdum of ESPN, Rodgers allegedly made around 100 bets, including a $1,000 wager on a play by a Colts RB, which he reportedly won.
