Over her almost twenty-year career in the fashion industry, the Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen has reached the pinnacle of her profession. However, the path to the peak was riddled with adversities and some pretty horrifying experiences on the way.
In her memoir, Tom Brady‘s ex-wife recounted an incident of extreme trauma and fear during the start of her career when she walked for Alexander McQueen in 1998. An almost-eighteen Gisele could barely make sense of what was happening. And in the utter chaos and rush of ramp walks, Bündchen didn’t have too many choices but to oblige.

This is when the future millionaire supermodel had just started hitting the fashion circuit. Having already done a few small-time ramp shows in New York City, Gisele was gearing up for her first international appearance at McQueen’s spring 1998 Golden Shower fashion show. And the butterflies in her stomach quickly twisted into knots of fear.
After the hair and makeup, with a wig and black lashes, the producers handed Gisele her three fits for the ramp walk. A silver bathing suit with chains hanging, a dress, and a fishtail skirt. Things were already overwhelming for Bündchen, who could barely put together a sentence in English at the time. Although not the best-suited get-ups, Gisele faced no problems carrying off the silver suit and the dress. And then came the skirt.
“Someone pushed the fishtail skirt at me and I changed into it. My legs could barely maneuver in the skirt, and the height of the heels made it nearly impossible to walk. I was still waiting for my top, and in my broken English, I finally asked someone where it was. ‘There is no top’, came the answer. I began to cry. I had no idea what to do. Mostly, I thought about how disappointed and embarrassed my parents would be,” the former Victoria’s Secret model wrote in her 2018 book, ‘Lessons: My Path To A Meaningful Life’.
The Brazilian supermodel has come a long way since the harrowing early days
Gisele elbowed her way through the multitude of adversities, paving the way for her colossal success in the field. She met the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and the two spent 13 years married and had two kids. And even after the power couple’s divorce, Bündchen has shown no signs of slowing down, quickly making an incredible comeback to the throne she once ruled.
