For some, rookies come and go, while for others, it’s them who make great players. Then, for one of them to play with the defending champs while being overshadowed by the greatest athletes in their position, is another struggle story. A similar story has come out of Patrick Mahomes’ recent camp. Despite ruthlessly dominating the Gridiron, the fans are yet to be impressed.

The athlete in question is no other than Kansas City Chiefs’ WR, who recently took the spotlight with his stellar performance in training camp. However, he now stands in the place of Tyreek Hill, who is still regarded as one of the best WRs in the league. So it’s no wonder why fans have a sense of hesitancy.

Putting aside fans’ doubts, Rashee Rice, Chiefs’ second-round pick, stands tall in the camp for a reason. Coming from SMU with unbeatable accolades, he recorded 72 passes for 1386 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior, earning his first-team all-district honors. His senior season with 51 receptions for 842 yards and 5 touchdowns also impressed numerous scouts, securing his place in the roster of the defending champions. In a recent interview, he praised his star QB, who acts like a great coach and brother off the field, making the adjustment to the new environment easier. He also expressed excitement about catching his first touchdown pass from Pat, which motivates him greatly.

After the recent training camp was concluded, NFL Rookie Watch took to their Twitter page to share a few updates on the new face in the Chiefs’ roster. It reveals that Rice has become one of the favorite targets for Mahomes. It further adds that Travis Kelce himself claimed that the rookie WR may be the dark horse of the past NFL draft’s wide receiver class. A clip of the youngster from the camp was also posted where he can be seen both catching a breathtaking pass and also overtaking the offense with ease.

However, the post quickly gained attention from fans, with many of them criticizing the page for over-hyping the rookie wide receiver.

Is “Explosive” Rashee Rice over-hyped?

The post praising the rookie WR’s performance as “explosive” didn’t sit well with fans, and one user even took a jab at the page by sharing a link to Rice’s last season’s performance, which they claimed went downhill with few catches. He also penned a note of his own, writing, “He wasn’t explosive last season,” showing his hesitancy toward the hype.

Another user took to comments to show his frustration, writing, “This account is so funny, a rookie could do ANYTHING and they’ll tweet this out with the exact same quotes for every guy.. but I’ll fall for it when I have one of em.

A fan was quick to point out how every WR that took Tyreek’s place had similarly made the same headlines before, commenting, “I think I’ve seen this same headline about every new WR on the Chiefs since Tyreek left.

Yet another user took a jab at the page, writing, “UPDATE! NEWS out of all camps! Every offensive rookie will be explosive and win the offensive rookie of the year.

Lastly, a fan looked at the positive side of things, and praised the rookie WR, writing, “Anyone who watched him in college would know this. Dude is a flat out stud. Might be the best WR SMU has had, and they’ve had some good ones

It’s worth noting that Rice still has incredible potential and is likely to keep performing at his peak in seasons to come. With his impressive camp performance, it may be just a matter of time before he takes over the starting position, solving the ongoing WR problem in the team. But again, only time will tell.
