Patrick Mahomes has achieved many things since he burst onto the NFL scene. He came in as a first-round pick in the 2017 draft and has established himself as an indispensable part of the Kansas City Chiefs. So much has changed since that day and now, the fans are waiting for the 2023 draft to kick off to find some new gems like Mahomes. But hours before the draft, QB’s mom Randi Mahomes has put behind the memories of a recent heartbreaking loss to celebrate her son’s achievement.

Randi lost her mother to health issues earlier this month and is surely devastated by the loss. But she is leaving that behind for the time being and is excited about the draft, which is just hours away now. And while she and the fans continue to wait eagerly, Randi found a perfect way to celebrate the day.

A throwback from Randi Mahomes

Randi Mahomes used the wait time for the Draft day to throw back on the time when her son went through the process. She shared a picture with Patrick Mahomes from the day the Chiefs drafted him six years ago. And she said what every fan will be thinking looking at the picture.

“Throwback to draft week, wow how time flies,” Randi wrote in the Instagram story.

The Chiefs drafted Mahomes out of Texas Tech in 2017 using their 10th overall pick. They traded up to 10th from the Buffalo Bills to get their hands on their target. Much has changed in six years but the bet that the Chiefs placed on the young QB has paid rich rewards for them.

Patrick Mahomes wasn’t the first QB off the board in the 2017 Draft. But he might as well have been. Mitchell Trubisky went to the Chicago Bears eight full places before him. But it was the Chiefs QB who has made history after history since that day.

After backing up Alex Smith for a year at Arrowhead Stadium, Mahomes stepped up to the starting role in 2018. The rest, they say, is history. He has taken his team to at least the AFC championship game every single year. The cherry on top? Two Super Bowl titles in three appearances. Now that is called dominance.

He lost his biggest cheerleader in her grandmother Debbie Bates just after winning his second ring this year. The reigning NFL and Super Bowl MVP would love to successfully defend the title in her memory when the next season rolls in. But first, all eyes are on the draft that kicks off in a few hours.
