The criteria for selecting a starting quarterback based on their height has always been a debatable topic in the NFL. It is naturally accepted that tall guys have an edge above other players in the league; however, it is understood that shorter QBs too have their own set of advantages. Recently, former Indianapolis Colts former punter Pat McAfee discussed the topic. He was awestruck to see the giant signal-caller Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Herbert is one of the tallest guys in the current pack of signal-callers. Not only his height; but the hunk’s physique is also equally supporting his length and is helping him on the field.

However, that’s when the debate begins. Justin Herbert is 6’6″ tall and weighs around 245 pounds. McAfee on his show was reacting to a Twitter post shared by Shawne Merriman where the 24-year-old Chargers QB was posing in a photograph.

He called him a “f**king avatar”, and went on to say, “Justin Herbert, who’s got his hair all the way back, and he’s been hitting the weight room all offseason. I like seeing these body transformations once guys understand what the NFL calls for and what the NFL takes. How do I become better? Justin Herbert said boom. Let me go and eat as many protein bars as Bryce D Chbeau and become a freak. I’m happy for him and I’m happy for the Chargers here.” he said on the talk show.

How big is Justin Herbert compared to Kyler Murray?

Interestingly, Kyler Murray is currently the shortest quarterback in the NFL. He was drafted first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 draft class. The 24-year-old comes in at  5’11” which is considered “very” short compared to other quarterbacks in the league.

However, these limitations don’t seem to have affected his gameplay. He is one of the brightest youngsters and is already a two-time Pro Bowler.
