What is ‘The Match’

‘The Match’ is a sports event that features exhibition golf matches between high-profile athletes and celebrities. It gained significant attention with the inaugural event held in 2018, which pitted professional golfers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson against each other in a head-to-head competition.

Subsequent editions of ‘The Match’ have included other notable athletes and celebrities, such as Tom Brady, who joined as a participant to showcase their golf skills and engage in friendly competition for entertainment purposes. In the tournament, pairing is done between golfers, NBA, and NFL players.

Brady/Rodgers vs. Allen/Mahomes (June 1, 2022)

This was the sixth edition of the match, with Tom Brady and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers vs Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. In an exhilarating game, Brady and Rodgers secured a hard-fought victory over Allen and Mahomes by a single hole. The competition intensified as it all came down to the final putt. In the end, Rodgers sunk the decisive putt, while Allen narrowly missed a long birdie attempt that could have forced a playoff.

On May 24, 2020, “The Match: Champions for Charity” took place at the Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. This thrilling event adopted a pro-am four-ball format, with legendary golfers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson teaming up with NFL quarterbacks as their partners. Woods joined forces with two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning, while Mickelson paired up with the remarkable seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, Tom Brady. In a nail-biting finish, Woods and Manning managed to stave off a late comeback and win the trophy from Mickelson and Brady.

The Match IV (July 6, 2021)

On July 6, 2021, the fourth edition of “The Match” unfolded at The Reserve at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana. This time, the dynamic duo of Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady took on the New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau. In a closely contested battle, DeChambeau and Rodgers emerged victorious, securing the match by a score of 3 and 2.
