The Business Insider shed some light on Kaepernick’s seven-year deal with the franchise. There were some big numbers included in the contract. But it seems like one of the parties did not keep their end of the deal. It was a complete sham. Let’s find out more details about the deal.

The mirage contract of Colin Kaepernick

The career of Colin Kaepernick started and ended with the San Francisco 49ers. The franchise picked the quarterback in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He was the 36th overall pick. The QB has been very successful with his time on the field. He led the Niners to consecutive NFC championship games and one Super Bowl. The club was very impressed with the talents of the young athlete. So much so that they offered him a record-breaking seven-year contract in 2014.

The original worth of the deal was $126 million. After a rocky season, however, everyone realized that the deal was only an illusion. The contract turned out to be not as impressive as many thought. Kaepernick received as little as $25.9 million.

How Much did Kap actually get?

The deal was signed in the summer of the 2014 season. It gave the QB a $12.3 million signing bonus. Kaepernick also received a 2014 salary of just $645,000. In 2015, the (then) Niners’ shot caller was supposed to collect his first big payday. According to the “record deal,” his salary should’ve increased to $12.4 million that season. But because of some clever words in the contract, Kaepernick only got around $10.4 million.

From that point on, his salary kept on decreasing by $2 million every season. The contract also had a clause where if the quarterback didn’t get selected in the Pro Bowl, or the 49ers didn’t play the Super Bowl, kap would take a massive hit. As we all know, Colin Kaepernick did not play all the seven years of his deal. What do you think about this situation?
