From the pinnacle of an NFL career to a suspension that received global coverage, Deshaun Watson has recently been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. The quarterback faced an eleven-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy. Watson was required to attend a mandatory treatment program and paid a fine of $5 million.

Watson is set to make his debut for the Browns when they face his former team, the Texans. But, before he even set foot in the NFL, Watson was making positive waves.

Deshaun Watson gave to the community before descending to rock bottom

A report delves into the quarterback’s life before his NFL fame. In 2011, Watson’s family was a recipient of a home from Habitat for Humanity. The quarterback’s mother was also a volunteer for the same organisation. Watson previously worked as a ball boy for the Atlanta Falcons. He received attention from coaches because of his strong arm. In the past, the quarterback has given back to his community in kind through various charitable acts. In 2020, Fox 26 Sports Director Mark tweeted about Watson’s charitable deeds. He said, @deshaunwatson giving back again, hands-on in helping hand out 500 desktop computers to students & families in need. Deshaun and his @DW4Foundation joined with the non-profit, @Comp_U_Dopt, and @reliantenergy to make it happen.” A video was also attached to the tweet.

But, Watson’s charitable actions from the past should not be a distraction from the accusations he’s currently facing. After facing allegations of alleged sexual misconduct from multiple women, Watson has been under the league’s scrutiny. His compliance with the league’s suspension guidelines will see him back in action against the Texans.

Watson will make his Browns debut against his former team

In Watson’s absence, Jacoby Brissett has taken over the Browns’ offense. Their surprising victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pushed them to a 4-7 record. That, by no means, is an exceptional record. But, every win counts. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said that he was excited to have Watson on the squad. The Browns officially added him to their 53-man active roster. The quarterback stayed away from team practices and meetings during his suspension. Watson returned to make use of the Browns’ facility and meet the coaches individually.

Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Watson would start for the team. He also mentioned that the quarterback would have the support of the organization and his teammates. He said, “I think Deshaun has the support of his teammates, has the support of this organization. Right now his focus, my focus is on this Houston game.” Do you think Watson can start with a bang?
