Thanksgiving is fast approaching and all the families are looking forward to breaking bread together after this difficult year. One person who is especially enthusiastic about the day is Miami Dolphins‘ Head Coach Brian Flores.

Flores will have fewer reasons to enjoy the holiday, given that his Dolphins lost to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. The loss was a disappointing one for the Dolphins, who have a better record than the Broncos this season at 6-4 compared to their 4-6.

Brian Flores spoke to the Miami Herald in a detailed interview opening up about his love for Thanksgiving. However, he also shared his concern about COVID-19 and how it will affect his players this season.

He said, “Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I understand families are going to come in. We also try to educate them that limiting the amount of people you come in contact with helps the situation. I think they understand that.”

Brian Flores concerned about Thanksgiving

While the pandemic does create challenges, Flores understands that Thanksgiving is a time where families want to be together.

“At the same time, the family is important too. We tell them how important it is to mask and try to keep a distance as much as you can.”

The coach was asked about the single players in the team and what their plans may be. However, Flores said he knew little about their activities.

“For our single guys, I can’t tell you what those guys are doing. These are all adults.  Hopefully, they’re making good decisions.”

Coach Flores also emphasized the importance of making sacrifices this year, in order to keep people safe. The COVID-19 pandemic has made being around loved ones a challenge, so he hopes that his players are keeping themselves and their loved ones safe.

He said, “This is a year of sacrifices. I don’t think we’re any different from families around the country. I’m used to having 30 to 40 people in the house for Thanksgiving. That is not going to be the case this year.”

Brian Flores will be reunited with his players after Thanksgiving when they take on the New York Jets. They will be hoping to win the game this weekend against a Jets team that is yet to register a win this season.
