The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense has been struggling in spite of star players like Mahomes and Kelce. The 2x SB MVP admitted this during a media session. While the defense has been doing an excellent job this season, which is very unlike the Chiefs, the offense needs to step their game up.
After securing a blowout win of 60 points combined, the Chiefs need to take a leaf out of the Cowboys’ playbook. And this is even more crucial now as they are set to face formidable teams in the future.

Nick Wright, a Kansas City native and a passionate fan of the Arrowhead team, had a tough time convincing his co-hosts at First Things First about his team. “Mahomes’ passer rating is way down. Holy Cow! So do the Chiefs need a blowout win?” was Kevin Wildes’ reaction as the trio compared the stats of star QB Patrick Mahomes. And his 2022 stats were much better than his 2023 stats. They were only willing to concede that the Chiefs truly stand a chance at the Super Bowls again if they manage to secure a blowout win against the Chicago Bears. What qualifies as a blowout win for the duo? A win with more than 20 points.
The Kansas City Chiefs have not been themselves lately. They tanked their season opener against the Detroit Lions thanks to drops and miscues by the offense. On Sunday, when they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars it was mostly due to the defense putting on a stunning performance. In that match as well, there were 12 penalties and 3 turnovers. The offense has to get it together.
In the upcoming match, the Chiefs have more to fear as their offense may be further weakened by the absence of RB Isiah Pacheco. Pacheco has been recovering from a hamstring contusion and his play status was questionable. The Cowboys, on the other hand, have some important lessons to teach the Chiefs.
The secret sauce to Cowboys’ successes
In a recent presser, the Chiefs QB noted that there was miscommunication between the players and he got too greedy for plays. Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy has been hard at work setting up a very “Dak-friendly lineup”. In the last two games, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott did not have much to do and yet, they won both games. The KCC QB would do well to learn from this and get the ball out quickly and make better decisions on whom to target.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports, the QB said, “Guys are on the same page, just being very open and communicating. That has been a world of difference.” The second lesson the Chiefs could pick up is more communication. They need to work together to minimize Mahomes’ weaknesses and maximize his talents.
In the next two weeks, the Chiefs are up against the Chicago Bears who have a struggling offense, and a Rodgers-less New York Jets. If the offense does not self-destruct and the defense keeps up its momentum, then the Chiefs can hope to make a warning statement to the rest of the NFL.
