While the two exchanged a few words right before halftime, Steven Adams and Ja Morant also walked toward Sharpe to back up their teammate. A platoon of coaches and trainers had to intervene in order to stop the situation from escalating. After the game, Dillon Brooks made a not-so-kind remark about the former NFL star which rubbed the fans the wrong way.

Brooks fires a shot at Shannon Sharpe

In the post-game interview, Brooks was asked about the heated exchange between him and the former Broncos man. The reporters tried to clear the air regarding what had happened on the court. When asked if a fan should have the right to go back and forth with the players like that? The NBA star had quite a remark to make.

The Canadian basketball star added more fuel to the fire as he replied, “Regular pedestrian like him (Shannon Sharpe)? No.” In any other case, his answer would have gotten a lot of agreement and support from fellow stars and fans alike. But he seems to have forgotten that Sharpe is no pedestrian and definitely not a regular one at that.

Fans shut down Brooks

After the comments, the NBA star had an overwhelming correction from the people on Twitter. For most of them, the disrespect he put on a name as established as Sharpe’s was not at all necessary. Indianapolis Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin tore Brooks apart for not giving the retired TE the credit he deserves. “HOF is HOF put some respect on that” Franklin tweeted.

He was one of many who came to the defense of the NFL icon. Like this fan who made a very simple argument.

Even the Grizzlies received some heat for the comments made by their player.

While this Twitter user told Brooks to talk trash after he has earned the right to do it against someone like Sharpe.

The 54-year-old retired TE has 3 Super Bowls to his name and has made 8 Pro Bowls, and 4 First-Team All-Pros. With over 10,000 receiving yards, he is still one of the greatest TEs to play the game and serves as an idol for many upcoming stars.

While Sharpe has been one of the most vocal supporters of LeBron in the past decade, the player himself has come out in support of his guy. “I ride with Shannon 365 days — 366 on a leap year — 24/7. So that’s my guy. I always got his back. And he’s got mine. He can talk with the best of them, for sure,” James said after the game.
