At one point this season, Adam Gase-coached New York Jets were winless after 13 games. But they’ve managed to turn things around over the last couple of weeks with back-t0-back wins over the Los Angeles Rams and the Cleveland Browns. A lot of that has to do with the resurgence of young Jets QB Sam Darnold.

The former USC college football star has thrown for 375+ yards with 3 passing TDs to his name over the last two games. He is on a hot streak right now. A win on Sunday against the New England Patriots in Week 17 will be the perfect way to end their tumultuous season in 2020. But can the under-fire quarterback calm his nerves against the big bad boys of the AFC East?

Sam Darnold is being well coached in New York, claims Patriots boss

Bill Belichick and the New York Jets have a strange bond between them. Both teams have failed to make the playoffs this season unlike divisional opponents, the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. But despite their differences, coach Belichick had some words of advice for under-pressure Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

“I don’t think there’s any shortage of talent there or playmaking ability. . . . He’s an athletic guy that has great size, big arm, hard to tackle in the pocket, good prospect, and he’s being well coached. . . . I don’t think he could get better coaching than where he is at,” Belichick told Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Darnold has a 2-9 record in 11 starts this season. He has thrown for 1,942 yards with 8 passing TDs against 9 interceptions. His pass completion rate of 58.8 if far from amazing. But he has shown flashes of brilliance over the last four months. But he is yet to establish himself a proper ‘franchise quarterback’ for the Jets.
