Four months after claiming their second Vince Lombardi Trophy in four years, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs made their way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for their much-awaited White House visit. And this was the first time the franchise made it to the White House, despite having won two Super Bowls before. Understandably, the Chiefs Kingdom tore into the POTUS and his social media posts for not having the champions come by sooner.

Back in 1971, Len Dawson had to make do with just a congratulatory phone call from President Richard Nixon. When the Chiefs claimed the Lombardi again in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic spoiled the capitol visit for Pat Mahomes and Travis Kelce. So what took so long for President Biden to extend the invitation this year?

The KC Chiefs triumphed 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles in mid-February in a last-minute clincher that saw Mahomes and Co win by a field goal because of a controversial holding call. While the fans criticized the POTUS for hosting the Chiefs four months later, it’s not entirely the POTUS’ fault that the Chiefs showed up on June 5.

Congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs on their Super Bowl win and to MVP Patrick Mahomes on leading the team to victory. Through injury and obstacles, you showed grit and true resilience. Looking forward to having you at the White House,” President Biden tweeted hours after the Super Bowl LVII showdown in State Farm Arena in Arizona. However, the Chiefs could only all gather for the ceremony yesterday. And the franchise’s loyal fanbase was not happy.

The Chiefs didn’t mind the delay as they made their way to the South Lawn for the ceremony after touring the White House. There, President Biden received his personalized No. 46 Chiefs jersey for being the 46th President of the United States of America along with a signed football from Pat Mahomes.

However, there seems to be a more comical reason behind the delayed invitation for the Chiefs. And it has to do with the First Lady, Jill Biden.

First Lady Jill Biden Could Have been the reason behind the late invite

Owing to the controversial ending to this year’s Super Bowl game, President Joe Biden had to be careful about the words coming out of his mouth. This is because First Lady Jill Biden is a “Philly girl” and a “rabid Eagles fan,” according to the POTUS. “Fortunately, she is overseas right now,” Biden jokingly said. Whether the President waited to have Mahomes and Co in the house till his better half was halfway across the world is uncertain. But it remains the most plausible scenario.

Joe Biden also brought up another Philly connection when he joked about KC Chiefs HC Andy Reid. The Philadelphia Mayor even requested Biden to arrest the former Philadelphia coach and transport him back to Philly. However, the President said, “I can’t do that.

Reid didn’t mind and paid more attention to the food platters. “From the tour that we had, the history here, and the great food, man. Can’t forget the great food,” the head coach said, via NFL media.
