There was a lot of optimism in the Jacksonville Jaguars dressing room following the acquisition of coach Urban Meyer. The former Florida State and OSU coach was brought in to resurrect the Jaguars as they failed to make the NFL playoffs yet again last season.
Another reason for Jags’ fans to rejoice in 2021 was the selection of Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence at the 2021 NFL Draft. The National Championship winning quarterback was drafted as the 1st overall pick earlier this year. He was tipped to be the ‘messiah’ to lead Jacksonville to the Super Bowl.

But following their opening week blowout loss to Houston Texans, this could be a disaster in the making for coach Meyer and the Jaguars.

Trevor Lawrence’s NFL debut was anti-climactic, to say the least. The former Clemson man threw 3 interceptions as the Jags lost by a 21-37 scoreline in Week 1. Following their defeat, a lot of flak was directed towards coach Urban Meyer.
There were reports that he lost the dressing room and is reportedly set for a shock return to college football. He was linked with the vacant position as USC Trojans head coach but smashed all those rumors in a recent pre-game interview,
“I’m here and committed to try to build an organization…I don’t want to ever fall into that trap of saying this is four-year plan, three-year plan. That’s not fair to players. This is a one-game plan and then we’ll worry about the next game.”

“There’s some guys that played a lot of football in that locker room and they deserve our very best, and that’s what it is. Other than a bruised soul that we all have right now, we’re still swinging away, and like I said, you’d probably see a little different look on my face if I had bad guys. That’s not the case at all,” Meyer said via ESPN sources.
Coach Meyer will heavily bank upon Lawrence as they prepare for Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season. The Jaguars will go up against Denver Broncos on September 19, 2021.
