In the previous season, the Chiefs QB broke the pattern where the league MVP couldn’t win the Super Bowl in the same year. He became the first reigning MVP since Kurt Warner in 1999 to win the Lombardi Trophy as well. Considering this achievement, via CBS Sports, it’s not surprising that Mahomes is widely regarded as the frontrunner to win the MVP award in 2023. If he manages to secure the title, he will become only the sixth player in the league’s history to win the award in consecutive seasons.
Aaron Rodgers, the former quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, accomplished this feat most recently in 2020 and 2021. Mahomes would join an elite group that includes Peyton Manning (twice), Brett Favre, Joe Montana, and Jim Brown. Based on the current listings, Patrick Mahomes has been selected as the top pick with odds of +650.
Justin Fields has been identified as the value pick with odds of +2500, meaning he is considered a potential underdog choice that could yield higher rewards. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers has been listed with odds of +1800.
The clash of Mahomes and Rodgers!
This year the NFL offers captivating matchups. However, none seems more enticing than the potential clash between Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes, primarily because they have never squared off against each other on the field. It is quite common to witness top players facing each other frequently, particularly when their teams are strong contenders for the Super Bowl. Notably, these two quarterbacks have won four of the last five NFL MVP awards, with Lamar Jackson being the only exception in 2019.

While they were scheduled to compete against each other on two occasions in the past, circumstances prevented those matchups from taking place. The first instance was during the 2019 season when Mahomes couldn’t play due to a knee injury sustained before the game. The second opportunity arose in 2021, but unfortunately, Rodgers was unable to participate after contracting COVID-19 a few days before the matchup.
