Teevens wasn’t just another football coach. He revolutionized practice methods, prioritizing players’ safety, notably against concussions. With Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering, Teevens introduced the world to the Mobile Virtual Player, a robotic tackling dummy adopted by many institutions and NFL teams. His vision made waves, reducing full-contact practices and emphasizing technique.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck in March. During a routine bicycle ride in Florida, Teevens faced a near-fatal accident with a pickup truck. Subsequent medical treatments saw his right leg amputated, compounded by severe spinal cord injuries. Despite relocating to Boston for rehabilitation and to be closer to loved ones, the injuries proved insurmountable.
Wilson took to Instagram, sharing a heartbreaking tribute to Teevens. His story displayed a candid picture of him, his face gleaming with smiles. The melancholic notes of “I’ll be missing you” played, with broken heart emojis captioning the image. The suddenness of this loss became even more palpable with such gestures from the NFL’s top stars.
