For an NFL athlete, the rookie season is an extensive part to display performance and learn the antics of playing in the big leagues. Unfortunately, for John Metchie III, he has to skip out on that part because of urgent medical aid. The Houston Texans’ rookie WR announced on Sunday that he is battling leukemia and might miss out on the stepping stones in the league.

John Metchie III is a Taiwan-born Canadian gridiron athlete. The Houston Texans bagged him this year as the No. 44 pick in the second round of the 2022 Draft. WR Metchie had some health-related concerns, but he gave out his best during his collegiate season at Alabama.
Houston Texans WR to miss out on the rookie campaign
On Sunday, the Houston Texans on Twitter released an update on John Metchie III. The rookie WR states that doctors have diagnosed him with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, the most curable form of leukemia. He also expressed that he would not be playing the sport this year — but he is in better spirits and expects a complete remission.

Metchie III mentions via a statement, “I am currently receiving great medical care, am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and well-wishes. I cannot wait to come back stronger than ever. God bless.”

As per NFL.com, In high school, physicians found that Metchie’s heart was somewhat enlarged, but they still allowed him to play football. He spent a year in a prep school before turning into a four-star recruit and signing with Alabama. The WR played a significant role in the Tide’s run to the 2020 national championship. However, he tore his ACL in the conference championship game, missing the team’s postseason run.

After Houston Texans and John Metchie III release the statement. Several NFL fans came out to support the WR. They wished them a speedy recovery, even if they are not a fan of the Houston Texans.
