Orbin Love left the world by shooting himself with his service gun on July 13, 2013. By consistently supporting Jordan and paving the way for him, Orbin’s journey with Jordan was short but his teaching still radiates from Jordan’s character. He departed when Jordan was 14 years old in a tragic demise. Moreover, after his father’s demise, Jordan highlighted the inseparable bond with his father by sharing, “We went everywhere together”.

Orbin served the Bakersfield Police Department for 27 years as an officer, detective, and sergeant. Remembering him on his 10th death anniversary, the police department’s official Instagram account honored his service by saying, “Orbin’s name certainly exemplified the way his fellow co-workers and community members felt about him because he was truly loved. He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and as a man of faith. Rest Easy Sir. Thank you for your service.”

A special father-son bond
Orbin was Jordan’s early mentor in his life. Jordan’s early stage as a quarterback was motivated by his father’s stint as a high school quarterback. However, Orbin was relegated to running back when he played for Bakersfield College. Reflecting on his father’s presence in his life, Jordan Love stated, “I definitely get that from my dad, but I’m not as good at it as he was.” Before starting as a quarterback, Jordan had short stints in basketball during his schooling. And it was one of Jordan’s matches when Orbin took his life when the family was watching Jordan’s game.
One cherished memory Jordan holds of his father is when he asked Orbin to take him out for pancakes on a Saturday morning. However, Orbin had to make a quick stop at the BPD for a bench press club. Determined to keep his promise, Orbin effortlessly pressed 300 pounds for several reps, without any warm-up. This moment made Jordan immensely proud, as he witnessed his father’s dedication to spending quality time with him. However, remembering the hero on his 10th death anniversary. His loving character and the energy behind Jordan Love’s career still continue to shimmer.
