Athletes are often perceived as ‘heroes’ by many of their die-hard fans, but very few get the opportunity to be real-life heroes. There are even fewer, like Pat Tillman, who have what it takes to stand up and risk everything for someone without a hiccup. A similar situation presented itself in front of the Minnesota Vikings star K J Osborn. He showed impressive guts and successfully saved a man from meeting his maker.

The incident occurred early Monday morning in Austin, Texas. Osborn happened to stumble upon a burning car and helped rescue the driver trapped inside the car. The 25 years old, however, did not pull off his incredible feat alone but had help from his uber driver and two other bystanders. Those four men showed undeniable courage and presence of mind to establish themselves as ‘modern-day heroes’.

Osborn was in his uber when they happened to come across a car completely engulfed in flames. Recalling the entire situation on Adam Schefter’s podcast, Osborn said, “They always say, ‘Wrong place wrong time, But I was at the exact right place at the right time. We went over to the area and his car is in flames. Immediately I’m thinking, this is a big risk”.

The Uber driver also served as a great inspiration for Osborn, “In my head, I’m thinking this car can blow up at any second, and it could all be over. That’s what I was thinking. But my Uber driver, he went right up to the car, he opened the door, he’s trying to see if this guy is alive. I’m like, Man, this guy is brave.”

Two other bystanders immediately rushed over to assist Osborn and his Uber driver, and the four men immediately sprung to action.

He was kind of in a daze, I don’t know if he was conscious but I think he felt the heat coming to his legs and obviously he just got into a big crash so he’s kinda out of it,” said Osborn.

The four men continued talking to the man during their attempts to pull him out of the car. Their efforts were eventually answered as the man mustered up enough strength to slide into the passenger seat, followed by getting pulled out from the car.

A divine intervention

Osborn believes that god had something to do with the entire thing. He took to Twitter to share, “I believe God had me, us, at the right place at the exact right time. I’ll leave you with this. God is real. And His LOVE is real. He will send his angels to be camped around you and provide you with his grace and mercy.

In addition to making amazing strides during his playing days, Osborn is also pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice at the University of Miami. He intends to keep helping people and make greater contributions to society by either working as a private investigator or in the secret service.
