The Green Bay Packers had a great Monday Night Football during their Week 15 clash against the reigning Super Bowl champions at Lambeau Field. With a 24-12 triumph over the LA Rams, Aaron Rodgers improved their season record to 6-8 and kept their slightest chances of playoff contention alive. Meanwhile, the emerging star Christan Watson disappointed the team by missing a crucial touchdown pass in the end that later got a special mention from the quarterback.

After Davante Adams left the side, rookie prospects and newcomers became the primary targets of Rodgers. To a much greater extent, they have improved and raised up to the NFL standards.

The North Dakota State product Christian Watson became the dark horse in this group and impressed the Cheeseheads with his speed and accurate catches. However, things didn’t go as expected during the Rams’ face-off. He could only finish 4 catches for 46 yards and no touchdowns.

This match-up also broke his ongoing touchdown streak that began in the Cowboys game of Week 10. One of the highlights was the missed pass from Rodgers during the late fourth quarter when the Packers were trying to progress from the Rams’ 4-yard line.

Despite Rodgers throwing signals at the rookie, he couldn’t process it and ran ahead without any intention of catching the ball. As a result, it went incomplete, and the Packers lost their chance to record 30 points on the scoreboard. Well, the quarterback didn’t seem to have any hard feelings when needled his wide receiver after the game.

“Hey, you wanna catch touchdowns, you run the right routes!” Rodgers said to the reporters. “He had a couple of opportunities tonight where he just didn’t do what he’s supposed to do. So that’s gonna happen. He’s a rookie. He had an incredible stretch of games. He got the ball again tonight really well.” Rodgers explained in the post-game press conference.

In a short period of time, Christian Watson molded himself into a great weapon for Green Bay. Despite getting backlashes, in the beginning, Watson improved a lot. Well, some credit also goes to Rodgers, who has been patient despite back-to-back losses.

While speaking to the reporters, he mentioned that Watson’s unreal catches in the space make the spectators hold their breath. “When he gets the ball in his hands in space, everybody kind of starts to hold their breath. I remember he’s saying he’s gonna break that tackle and walk in the end zone backflip, and that’s the excitement he’s brought to our football team,” Rodgers explained.

Certainly, the season has been a mixed bag for Watson. He joined the elite group of touchdown-scoring rookies that includes Randy Moss and Odell Beckham Jr. In his four games since Week 10, Watson recorded 7 touchdowns, matching the record of OBJ and still behind Moss’ eight. It will be interesting to see how the management utilizes this youngster in the coming seasons.
