Mayfield was perhaps desperate for an opportunity since his role at the Panthers went from a team centerpiece to a sidelined spectacle. And the LA franchise provided him with what he was looking for. But it wasn’t the holiday spirit that moved the Rams to extend this offer to Mayfield.
The 2021 Super Bowl champions are having roadblocks of their own this season. The Rams find themselves at the bottom of the NFC West. Without their quarterback and star wide receiver, they are looking nothing like they were last season.
Baker Mayfield has an opportunity to shine (or something along those lines) in Stafford’s absence
Former linebacker and current sports analyst A.J. Hawk asked a question that has probably been on a lot of minds. During ‘The Pat McAfee Show.’ Hawk said, “I mean it makes sense doesn’t it to bring Baker in like do we know, is he going to start, does he have a chance to start anytime soon? Like what’s the plan.” That will be something the NFL world looks forward to. Can Mayfield come back from almost dooming his career?

Former punter Pat McAfee responded to Hawk’s question. He said, “Yes, he has a shot to play immediately. They said I don’t know how much he knows of the offense, and maybe he’s been a part of similar offenses in the past with Stefansky.” Although the conversation veered off on a tangent, McAfee thinks that Mayfield might find himself as the Rams’ starter sooner than anticipated. Their current quarterback Matthew Stafford has suffered more than one concussion this season and a reported spinal contusion.

With Stafford out for the foreseeable future, is this Mayfield’s time to show the NFL world that he has more to give? His time with the Rams could be useful in proving himself before the quarterback hits free agency. Until then, he will be keen on making sure the league bears witness to what he can do.
