It seems Bill Belichick is not worried about delegating his duties and entitling new offensive and defensive coordinators moving ahead into the 2022 season. While the 23-year-old rookie is trying to establish his name as a true franchise quarterback, Belichick recently announced that he hasn’t decided upon any prospects for the role of an OC.

It turns out, for the Patriots, this was not the first time to make such moves. In 2010, Belichick went on the field without any play-callers. However, there was a leader named Tom Brady to control the offensive unit and was already a Super Bowl Champion at that time. But today the case is different.

Belichick’s son, Steve Belichick, took the responsibility to call defensive plays for the team after Brian Flores left his job as the defensive coordinator in 2018. With the exit of Josh McDaniels to the Las Vegas Raiders in pursuit of a head coaching job, the Patriots are stranded and deprived of OCs and DCs on the staff.

However, as per reports, Steve Belichick, who is currently serving as an outside linebackers coach, might adorn the role of a play caller. But still, there hasn’t been any official announcement from the Patriots heading into training camps.

While the team was busy conducting their OTAs a few weeks ago, Matt Patricia and Joe Judge were viewed as the favorites to replace McDaniels. Patricia was seen holding a walkie-talkie, giving instructions to the quarterback, and calling games during the sessions.

How did Bill Belichick respond to the matter?

When he was addressing the media back in May, Belichick was questioned about his ignorance of appointing a new OC. He responded firmly, saying there was much time left to discuss the issue. “Do we have titles? Yeah, look, there’s a lot of jobs that we have to do. We’re all working on those things now but — it’s May.” he said.

When asked about the chances of recruiting proxy play-callers from the practice sessions, he said, “They’ll change in June, they’ll change in August, they’ll change in September. So, we’ll evolve it to the things that we need to do. If you’re asking about game plans, we’re months away from that — months. … Months away. Months. What plays are we calling? Minicamp plays?”.

There is much time left for Belichick to decide, and the season has not started yet. If the veteran ever plans to change his mind, fans will be updated at the earliest.
