In the past, many such youngsters have impressed in their first-ever NFL season. It seems Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City has found one such talent in the form of Trent McDuffie as the cornerback. Even before making his debut in the regular season, the youngster has already started drawing comparisons with the NBA superstar Steph Curry.

The Chiefs are busy practicing for their preseason knocks, and the veterans are already getting the taste of newcomers from the 2022 draft. McDuffie is a Washington product who was selected in the first round as the No 21 draft pick this offseason. Recently, he received praise from his veteran teammate, L’Jarius Sneed for his on-field performance. And guess what, the comparison went towards Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry.

It’s an incredible achievement to be compared with a 4-time NBA champion, 8-time NBA All-Star, and 2-time NBA MVP even before setting foot on the field. Sneed was speaking to the reporters on Wednesday about the defensive backs and new faces inside the team. “I see they’re hungry, man,” Sneed said.

“They want to be successful. I call Trent (McDuffie) like the lil’ Steph (Stephen) Curry. He’s a swift little guy. He does it all from the inside, from the outside. I see all of them have potential.” He added. Well, the youngster is one of the top prospects for starting cornerbacks this season. He mentioned that McDuffie’s size, agility, and blaze make him different.

Moreover, he said that the rookie was learning defensive techniques fast compared to others on the team. Regardless, McDuffie proved himself to be a promising player in the first preseason game and seems to have impressed the quarterback in his first appearance.

Although Patrick Mahomes happens to be a gunslinger with his unconventional gameplays, the quarterback often incurs injuries throughout the season. In the last campaign, he was recovering from the injury he suffered in 2020.

But this time, he claims to feel better coming off a successful offseason. “It really helped a lot this offseason just not having to go back and rehab for those first two months,” Mahomes said.

“I think I have a better base underneath me. So just trying to make sure that I keep getting better,” he added. Although Mahomes had his share of losses this offseason by losing players like Tyreek Hill, the quarterback seems confident to enter his sixth NFL season.
